Ruth Grieve Biggers, 91, passed peacefully at her home in Lansdowne, Virginia on Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Mrs. Biggers was born in Hartford, Connecticut on October 7th 1918 to the late Archibald and Alice Britland Grieve. Her husband Robert G. Biggers Sr in 1990 and a daughter in law, Louise Biggers in 2008 also predeceased her. In 1942 she and her husband purchased a farm in Arcola, Virginia and resided there until recent years. Mrs. Biggers took great pride in the Arcola United Methodist Church, where recently a church hall was named the Ruth Hall in honor of her and another member named Ruth. Mrs. Biggers was a librarian at Loudoun Valley High School for many years until moving to Broad Run High School when it opened. She was an avid bridge player who enjoyed playing with friends at the senior center in Leesburg.
Mrs. Biggers is survived by her beloved five children: Robert G. Biggers Jr, (Sandi) of Lewisburg, NC, James G. Biggers of Waverly, TN, Paul G. Biggers (Susan) of Purcellville, VA, Ronald C. Biggers (Valerie) of Apex, NC, Carol B. Devers (Conrad) of Haymarket, VA; one sister: Barbara McQuair of Louisville, KY; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Arcola United Methodist Church, 24757 Evergreen Mills Road, Dulles, VA 20166 on Saturday, January 16th 2010, from 10 until time of services at noon with Pastor Chris E. Riedel officiating. Interment will follow in National Memorial Park Cemetery, Falls Church, VA.
